As proud Community Club Partner of The Offside Line, everyone at Breadalbane Finance is delighted to celebrate February’s Community Club of the Month – Skye Rugby Club.
At Breadalbane Finance, we work with ambitious businesses across Scotland who are building something meaningful for the long term. That’s why Skye Rugby Club’s story resonates so strongly with us. Their journey is about far more than results on the pitch – it’s about vision, resilience, community spirit and creating opportunity in challenging circumstances.
Skye Rugby Club’s story is about far more than results. Founded in May 2022 by president Kelly Bow as a tribute to her late father – a proud Scot with a lifelong love of rugby – the club was created to bring together community, sport and opportunity on an island better known for shinty. In a short time, Skye have established themselves in the Arnold Clark Caledonia North Region League Division 3 and underlined their progress with an impressive 41–14 win over Fraserburgh RFC in January.
The journey has not been straightforward. From early facility challenges and the cost of replacing goalposts, to the reality of five-hour round trips for “home” games and lengthy travel to east coast fixtures, the club has had to operate with resilience and strong financial discipline. Limited travel funding means sponsorship, memberships and careful management are essential to sustaining progress – a challenge we at Breadalbane Finance understand well when supporting ambitious businesses across Scotland.
What stands out most is the club’s commitment to community and youth development. Around 40 young players, aged five to 18, now train regularly, giving rugby a growing presence on the island and helping secure the sport’s future locally. The connection between senior and junior players has created a strong sense of belonging and pride that extends beyond matchdays.
That spirit has been especially evident as the club has rallied around teammates facing serious illness, offering practical, financial and emotional support. It is a powerful reminder that grassroots sport builds far more than teams – it builds lifelong friendships and a support network that strengthens entire communities.
Skye Rugby Club may still be searching for a permanent home on the pitch, but off it they have created something truly special. Everyone at Breadalbane Finance congratulates the players, volunteers and supporters on their achievements so far, and we look forward to seeing the club continue to grow.
